World’s Oldest Ramen

4000 year old noodles (I am presuming to call them ramen) were discovered in China recently. They are believed to be Smack brand.

More Anti-Spam Measures

I have taken some additional anti-spam measures after some spammers made it through my “captcha” filter. The comments were all regarding “Texas Hold’Em”, “Student Loans”, and "Ringtones" which apparently are more popular than viagra to spam about these days. The following new anti-spam measures were taken:

  1. Added some new words to the WP internal comment filter, including "holdem", "ringtones", and "loans".
  2. Installed the wp-hashcash plug-in. This plug-in requires javascript to run, so if you don't have javascript you will no longer be able to comment, sorry... (Thanks to "May" for pointing this out in an earlier comment.)wp-hashcash didn't do anything to stop spam...
  3. Modified some settings for my captcha to make it more difficult to get past.
  4. Disabled trackbacks and pingbacks.
  5. Removed my old captcha, and added a new one.
  6. Added Bad Behavior

Ramen Delivery!

Last week I received a ramen delivery from NoodleSon. I received about 5-7 different types of ramen, some chocolate, and some candy. My wife took all the chocolate and left me the ramen. I will be eating and reviewing them over the next few weeks. Thanks to Dan at NoodleSon for hooking me up!

So Far Behind…

I am so far behind… I have about a 4 month backlog of recipes built-up, so if yours doesn’t post soon, don’t worry, it might still make it. I post about 60-75% of recipes I receive, but sometimes it can be a couple of months late. I do always write back to people who’s recipes I post.

Red Cross Ramen

Adam writes from Denver…

Did you know if you spent just $100…

You could get 400 packs of Ramen – which would serve…

800 people. Imagine sending that to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. 800 people fed one meal – about 260 people completely fed for a day. WOW.

Only problem is, you would need 50 gallons of fresh, clean water to make the Ramen, and shipping costs to Fedex it from Colorado would cost 20 bucks extra. Still...

Just think about it.

Coffee Pot Ramen

Not a recipe, but an interesting way to cook your noodles…

Take one package of Ramen Noodles and place inside coffee pot. Then you fill your coffee maker with water. Turn coffee pot on and allow it to cook its self. Let set for about 10 minutes so the noodles cook.... then drain noodles into a bowl. Add the flavoring of your package and any other seasonings you may like. Then eat.

I used to have a video that Kam Kashani sent in of cooking ramen in an espresso maker, I lost it somewhere along the way...

Site Down Yesterday

I found out the hard way that my host is based in Los Angeles. LA lost power for most of the afternoon yesterday and my site was down. It wasn't back up by 8PM mountain, but it came back up sometime over the night... So much for the Always On Ramen Infrastructure...
