I was still hungry after dinner so I cooked up some ramen from my Ramenbox. I picked out the Paldo Bibim Men which looked to be spicy and contains, “addition more 8% apple juice in soup”.

Spicy and sweet Paldo Bibim Men ramen

The noodle brick was larger than the normal one, so I knew that this would be a filling snack. There was no dry seasoning, instead a packet of liquid that has “paste soup” printed on the side provided the flavor. The seasoning smelled spicy and was a fiery dark red color indicative of the chili powder inside. One surprise to me (since I never remember to read the description before eating) was the sweet taste that accompanied the spice. I didn’t get much other distinguishing flavors here, so I think this one would be improved with some add-ins like soy sauce, onions, carrots, chicken, etc. Overall I liked this ramen, but it looks like it’s going to be tough to top the Paldo Fire Cup.

PS – My after cooking picture was blurry, so no after cooking pic today.

  1. I also found it interesting that this one required the noodles to be rinsed in cold water after cooking. It was the first non-hot ramen I have tried.

  2. Hi there! This ramen is an instant version of a cold no-soup Korean noodle dish. It’s usually served with slices of beef (usually brisket), julienned cucumbers, pickled daikon, half a hard-boiled egg, and slices of asian pear. It’s a traditional dish usually served in the summer…no hot soup to make you even sweatier! This instant version is a bit sweet but it’s suppose to be somewhat sweet and spicy. I would recommend not to doctor it up with soy sauce because it’ll be too salty.

There is also a cold soup version as well where the soup is actually iced down…again, served with the same accoutrements but you usually add to the soup base with white vinegar and hot Chinese mustard paste. Sorry for rambling on…I enjoyed reading through your blog!

  3. This is my favorite instant noodle product – and you want to consume it as cold as possible, on a HOT day. Otherwise it really loses its appeal. I prepare an icewater bath to dunk the noodles into for superior chilling, and you want the noodles to be done on the al-dente side. Yummay!

The most important garnish is julienned cucumbers. Scallions are nice, and I also like to shred some lettuce into it to reinforce the salad-y flavor.
