Another prison recipe, this one actually is made in a bowl, so I guess Texas prisoners get bowls. That’s better than some of these that are made inside the bag.

    Ingredients

  • One Ramen package Any flavor
  • Can of Hormel Chili or any kind of chili
  • Small package of Fritos or any corn chip
  • Cheese if desired, grated or chopped

Boil Noodles to desired state. Drain almost all of noodles except about 1/4 of the water. Place the noodles in a bowl and mix in the seasoning packet, a can of chili, fritos or corn chips, and cheese if desired. You’ve now created the “Inmate Mixer,” an inmate shared this with my husband while he was a guard in a prison here in Texas.

Can anyone explain why I’ve been getting a ton more recipes recently? I got 6 yesterday and I usually get only one or two per day. This usually means that the site was featured to a new audience, on a show or in a magazine. Anyone know? (There was the MSN article last week, maybe that was it?).

This will likely re-ignite the debate as to whether ramen is vegan or vegetarian, my answer is that I don’t really know and that it probably depends on the brand. Let the arguing begin! PS – Did you know that Rotel is a brand of AV equipment in addition to the yummy spicy tomatoes?

    Ingredients

  • 3oz package Nissin Top Ramen (any flavor)
  • 10oz can Rotel Mild or Original
  • 2 Tbs nutritional yeast (aka brewer’s yeast)
  • 2 Tbs margarine
  • water

This is my favorite food right now, and it’s so easy. Crumble the ramen noodles in the package, then pour in a bowl. Recycle the flavor packet for something else. Sprinkle the nutritional yeast over the crumbled noodles. Open a can of Rotel and pour over the noodles, then add about 1/4 can of water. Cook in microwave on high for 6 minutes, then stir in margarine. The nutritional yeast adds a cheesy flavor, if you’re not vegan, you could use some cheese instead.

I did a brief interview with Chris Solomon about ramen (of course). It was posted this week. As usual, my best quotes are about jail.

“I do get some crazy recipes from people in jail,” says blogger Matt Fischer, the founder of The Official Ramen Homepage. “What they’ll end up doing is open up the package and then turn up the tap water really hot, and mix it up, and then chop up a Slim Jim and put it in there, and then put in some Cheetos.

“Makes you think that the food in there must be pretty bad.”

WordPress doesn’t have an easy way that I know of to edit the site theme except to have it “live”, so I will be messing around with it today. It’s going to look all sorts of odd until I get it working. I am doing this because my old theme is about 400 years old and can’t take advantage of all the features that WP 2.6 offers.

If you’ve ever wanted to cook ramen in the microwave without getting “soup” out as a result, you may want to try this method which ends up evaporating absorbing the excess water. Take note, this is for 1/2 brick, I’m not sure whether doubling this would work or not, so someone let me know if you try it. Also take note of the prep time here, you need to plan ahead a bit.

    Ingredients:

  • Half pack of noodles (single serving)
  • 1/4 cup liquid (water, wine, broth, etc.)

Put the noodles in a bowl large enough so they lie flat. Add the chosen liquid and seasoning. Allow to soak until the liquid is absorbed, turning the cake over once. This takes about an hour. Microwave 1 minute at high followed by 3 minutes at 30% power (1100W microwave). You can also have added shrimp, tuna, cooked chicken, whatever. Turn out onto plate-cooked with no excess liquid. Enjoy!
