Liz Crain wrote this excellent article about the site. Liz writes for Culinate, which is really a cool site. Culinate is (in my own words) a web magazine about food, cooking, recipes, community, and life.
Someone has created a Myspace page for Momofuku Ando. The page is actually a tribute and there are lots of nice comments about how important ramen has been in their lives. If you are on myspace, check it out.

- 4 Blocks Ramen
- 1 to 2 cups of chopped vegetables (leeks, carrots, celery, and cauliflower)
- 1/2 Can Pineapple
- 1 Onion
- 1 clove Garlic
- Some oil
- Japanese Seasoning/herbs
- Soy Sauce
Preparation: First let some water boil for the ramen. When it’s boiling put the ramen in. Next put the oil together with the soup vegetables, onion and the garlic in another pan. After some time put the Japanese seasoning in with the oil/veggie mix. Put the pineapple in it after you mixed the seasoning. When the ramen is cooked, drain the water. Then throw the mix and the ramen in one pan and mix it. At last you put some soy sauce and sambal with it. Mix it and ready to eat. Hope you like it, we certainly did. =)
(*) – I’m going to get clarification of what that means, maybe a can of mixed vegetables?
Update: I talked to Jörgen to get clarification on the “soup vegetables”. It seems to be leeks, carrots, celery, and “flower cabbage”. The “flower cabbage” will require another email to clarify! Here’s a picture of what you are supposed to use, the stuff is called “soepgroenten“.
Update 2: “flower cabbage” means cauliflower (cut small)
1) Do you know why I cannot find instant wonton soup anymore at my local store? No.
2) Do you sell seasoning packets separately from the ramen? Actually I don’t sell anything at all (besides the Amazon.com links), but I think it’s a good idea.
3) Why can’t I find my favorite brand at my local store anymore? Sorry, I don’t know. See Questions 1 & 2.
I just had Maruchan’s Lime Chili Shrimp noodles. They were spicy and had a good flavor, with just a hint of lime. This is my new favorite flavor! I picked them up for a ridiculously high $.25 from Safeway last week, so despite rumors, they are still around!
Pam Grout contacted me late in 2005 about a book she was working on called Colorado Curiosities: Quirky Characters, Roadside Oddities & Other Offbeat Stuff. She was adding a section about me, as I live in Colorado, and this site is a curiosity! Well, the book was published in 2006, but I somehow missed the news, until a friend of mine told me. The book has 4 pages on Fort Collins, Colorado, 2 of which about yours truly and the other 2 about New Belgium Brewing. One of these two has an annual revenue of over $75 million dollars and one makes about $10 a month from ads and referrals. You figure out which is which…
Anyway, if you buy the book, use the Amazon.com link on the right hand side of the page, it will be showing some ramen or something, but you can click on it, get to Amazon, and then buy the book.

In honor of The Official Ramen Homepage being banned in China, I asked a friend of mine to add a “button” similar to the “As Seen on TV” logos. The result is in the header. We will probably keep it up for awhile just as a badge of honor.
The design was done by my friend who works at Charles Ryan Associates (CRA), in the Richmond, VA office. Look them up if you need any advertising (print, radio, web, tv, etc).

According to The Great Firewall of China testing site, this website is blocked in China. I find this quite odd, because this site is fairly harmless. Why do Chinese internet censors hate noodle freedom so much?
Karina from Virginia sent me some pictures of her art project. The project was called “Wearable Art”, and Karina made a dress out of ramen packets. It took 196 packets of ramen, and some chop-sticks to construct! No word on what grade Karina received, but it looks like “A” work to me.
I figure that a 10 cents per packet, and some free chopsticks with take-out chinese, you could make this dress for about $20. That’s not counting the “worth” you get from eating all the ramen.
